What is MS Teams
Microsoft Teams is a collaboration space for colleagues it works as a communication center that allows your team to complete projects together while being remote. It also allows you to work privately on your objectives or work items. Microsoft teams provides secure document storage space that your workgroups can work from.
All of this is done on one application where you can author, co-collaborate, and have virtual meeting space. In these virtual meeting you can chat, call with multiple people, or hold private meetings. Microsoft meeting allow for application integration as you can work with Microsoft office 365 products, share documents and files while having a built-in security
Getting started with MS Teams
In your Teams application you have different views available to you on the left side. To get started you will be working in teams and chat view for the most part.
Under the Teams view you can see headers that will be your workgroups. Based on each person’s role and responsibility they will be a part of different workgroups. “Teams are separated by projects, department, programs, or objective. Each team has a channel that allows you to work within your groups separately.
I would write it like this: There are many ways to organize your Teams. Examples: Project, Department, Program, or Initiative.
A channel is a workstream that is happening within a workgroup. (A channel is a place where you can hold a meetings and work on files together.) In each channel there are tabs that group members collaborate in.
Each channel gets a post tab for communications so instead of sending emails you can communicate internally via chat where you can attach files, insert emoji, gif, and schedule meetings.
Use @ Mentions to notify a specific user in your Teams for push notifications, these push notifications will appear in the bottom right.
New post will be pushed to the bottom of the thread
When you select the files tab it shows you all the shared content of that channels folder. All users can upload and work on these files in this channel. Once you upload a file everyone on the team can access it in real time.
You can create new work files with drop down menu as Office products are available in Microsoft Teams
Select office product then name the document
Here you can see that I am working on the document within Teams, this allows other co-workers on my team to work on this same document I created simultaneously and we can communicate with each other while editing a document by selecting the conversation button at the top right. Just like the post @mention you can select you team member to communicate with as you are both editing the document.
Teams saves everything you work on so when you close the file it is auto saved. Here is an example of me and my colleagues editing a document in real time while in a videos chat:
The Wiki tab is a place to host shared information such as policies, best practices, and other information. There are pages and sections, the sections are where you will find the notes.
Going back to Teams, under each Teams menu you will have channels and, in each channel, will have these three tabs: Post, Files, and Wiki. You can add more channels by clicking on the ellipses or right clicking on the Team and selecting add channel
All channels have the three tabs as default, but you can add more by clicking the plus sign
While the team’s view is used for group collaboration, the chat view can be used for peer to peer and team chats. To get started select the start chat option at the top under the chat menu from there you can enter a user’s name then start a new chat that will to start an instant message conversation where you can attach files, gifts, emojis, past snipping tool snip, etc. conversations in chat are saved automatically.
You can have live conversation with voice and video calls.
In these voice and video calls you can answer or call a user to enable our webcam, and even share our screen by selecting the share button to share our monitors, Windows and even presentations.
Voice and video calls allow for group conversations by selecting the add people option to have group chats. You can have up to 100 people in these teams to host virtual online meetings.
In Microsoft Outlook navigate to your calendar view to view your Outlook calendar events, as well as to join teams, meetings.
Select a New Teams meeting button then enter a title of this meeting you can invite others to your meeting
If the person has Teams they can join through their app if they don’t have teams, they will still be able to join your meeting even without having to download the applet. When invited to a meeting these meeting will show up in your calendar and meeting can be joined from the calendar by clicking on the meeting.

If you do not already have a webcam or laptop that does not have a built-in camera I suggest the Logitech C270 that will allow you to participate in all features of MS Teams
